The proposal aims to establish two (2) Regional Innovation Centers (Centers) that will impact twelve (12) municipalities outside the metropolitan area, in a collaborative approach led by Foundation for Puerto Rico (FPR) with Engine 4 Innovation Lab (E4), the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC), municipal governments of Manatí and Yabucoa, and other private sector and non- governmental organizations.
These Centers will offer a space with robust broadband and coworking areas accessible to the community, technological and telecommunications infrastructure for students and entrepreneurs, capacity building and training programs to promote innovation and competitiveness and a resilient oasis during times of disaster.
The deployment of capacity building and reskilling programs through these Centers will equip the communities among the northern and eastern regions of the Puerto Rican archipelago with the tools and skills they’ll need to take advantage of new economic opportunities, obtain, and retain better jobs and adopt innovative business ideas.
The total budget of this program is $250,000 generously provided by USDA to support direct and indirect project costs, with a required match of $37,500 in cash matching funds. The funding for the project match has been generously provided by A Friend’s Foundation.
