FPR launches Center for Strategic Innovation under leadership of Alexandra Lúgaro
Today we took an important step in our mission to transform Puerto Rico into a thriving and sustainable economy with the launch of our Center for Strategic Innovation. Rooted in FPR’s legacy of driving development strategies at scale through collaboration, the Center seeks to achieve transformative change in Puerto Rico and the rest of the world through research and cross-sector partnerships. The Center will be led by Alexandra Lúgaro, Esq.
“The Strategic Innovation Center exemplifies Foundation for Puerto Rico’s role as a catalyst for initiatives focused on developing innovative ideas and promoting high-impact projects. This collaborative space will foster the creation of strategic alliances to share information between the private sector, non-profit organizations, government, academia, community leaders and individuals prone to seeking cutting-edge solutions,” said Jon Borschow, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Foundation for Puerto Rico and Chief Executive Officer of the entity.
“In Puerto Rico, we face a clear and present challenge beyond the immediate crises that we tackle every day. The Center brings an opportunity to fill a void that makes a visible impact on our entire socio-economy, on the prolonged lack of progress, talent immigration, on division and polarization,” Borschow added.
Borschow also noted that the Center will be led by Alexandra Lúgaro, in the capacity of Executive Director, for being a woman of leadership who has developed her career with new ideas, courage, and passion. “Alexandra brings an extraordinary set of assets; she understands our island’s challenges and opportunities and, in her new role at the Center, she will lead the process of devising and promoting transformative strategies designed to create a new future for Puerto Rico,” Borschow commented.
“The model upon which Foundation for Puerto Rico operates is participatory, bringing all sectors to the table to identify the best strategies and accelerate impact. We have a large group of experienced professional leaders that shore up support for nonprofits, foster collaboration among different sectors, share new ideas, and create synergies through other non-governmental organizations, all united by the mission to transform Puerto Rico,” said Annie Mayol, president Chief Operations Officer of Foundation for Puerto Rico.
Mayol added that the Foundation and all its initiatives, including the Center, operate under the slogan of there is no future in rebuilding the past. “Our projects are designed by looking at best practices and innovative models at a global level, but seen through a framework from and for the community, since together they make up the engine that moves Puerto Rico forward with the tools and participation they deserve.”
For her part, Lúgaro said that “the Center seeks to place the country in a better position to face and succeed in addressing the challenges of the modern world. This will require innovation not only in ideas, but also in processes, products, and methodologies. These are adopted within public policy and the training of a country’s transformative leaders. Without innovation, which involves research, collaboration, and the development of evidence-based models, we cannot aspire to sustainable economic growth.”
Lúgaro indicated that she chose to join Foundation for Puerto Rico’s initiative in recognition of the entity’s important and far-reaching work. “Over the years, Foundation has grown its operation, experience, and programmatic scope, establishing itself as an organization capable of undertaking innovative and collaborative initiatives through strategies and changes in public policy that are sustainable, inclusive, and high impact. Having an active role as director of the Center for Strategic Innovation will allow me to be part of that, since the Puerto Rico’s wellbeing of has always been my calling.”
“At Foundation for Puerto Rico we strongly believe in the importance of taking action. Today we are pleased to present The Center for Strategic Innovation as a meaningful action to this end,” Borschow concluded.
