flex: 1; min-height: 320px;\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Grz6c6EVttc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 20px;\">Tradicionalmente, los modelos de recuperaci\u00f3n y ayuda posteriores a un evento natural se enfocan m\u00e1s en la infraestructura y restauraci\u00f3n de las residencias y hogares que en la resiliencia econ\u00f3mica, incluida la continuidad de operaciones de los negocios. Por esto, tras la devastaci\u00f3n ocasionada por el hurac\u00e1n Mar\u00eda en el 2017, creamos el Small Business Support Program (SBSP) para ayudar a los due\u00f1os de negocios existentes a permanecer abiertos, retener empleos y optimizar sus negocios a trav\u00e9s de ayuda financiera y asistencia t\u00e9cnica inmediata.<\/p>\n<p>A principios de 2020, reactivamos el programa para apoyar a los peque\u00f1os negocios afectados por una serie de terremotos que estremecieron a Puerto Rico en el mes enero, incluido un evento de magnitud 6.4 que caus\u00f3 estragos y devastaci\u00f3n en la costa sur de la isla.<\/p>\n\n<p>En 2022, nuevamente Puerto Rico fue impactado por un evento natural. Exactamente cinco a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de que el hurac\u00e1n Mar\u00eda azotara la isla, y en medio del proceso de recuperaci\u00f3n, Puerto Rico enfrent\u00f3 las secuelas del\u00a0hurac\u00e1n Fiona.<\/p>\n\n<p>Muchos de los negocios que participan en nuestros programas empresariales PULSO\u00a0(cohorte 1) y\u00a0[re]ACTIVA, sufrieron los efectos adversos del hurac\u00e1n. Tal y como hab\u00eda sucedido antes, muchos perdieron miles de d\u00f3lares en productos perecederos y equipos, y otros sufrieron da\u00f1os significativos en la infraestructura de sus negocios. Como respuesta inmediata, FPR reactiv\u00f3 el SBSP, brindando $40,000 en ayuda econ\u00f3mica y asistencia t\u00e9cnica a 14 empresas en la regi\u00f3n norte.<\/p>\n\n<p>Como resultado de este programa, durante los \u00faltimos cinco a\u00f1os, FPR ha otorgado un total de $624,000 en asistencia econ\u00f3mica a m\u00e1s de 230 peque\u00f1os negocios afectados adversamente por eventos naturales en todo el archipi\u00e9lago.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-609f0c8 operaciones se vieron afectadas tras el paso del Hurac\u00e1n Fiona. Adem\u00e1s, los beneficiarios recibir\u00e1n como parte de la ayuda, mentor\u00eda individualizada para impulsar sus negocios. Esta iniciativa surge como parte del Programa de Asistencia a Peque\u00f1os Negocios (SBSP por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), el cual naci\u00f3 en el 2017 a ra\u00edz del paso del Hurac\u00e1n Mar\u00eda, donde se otorgaron unos $500,000 en ayudas, y posteriormente fue reactivado luego de los terremotos de 2020, distribuyendo $80,000 entre los negocios afectados.<\/p>\nLa iniciativa, que nuevamente se reactiv\u00f3 tras el embate de Fiona, se puso en marcha a tan solo d\u00edas del paso del evento atmosf\u00e9rico, y logr\u00f3 recaudar los fondos mediante donaciones a trav\u00e9s de la p\u00e1gina web de FPR y donativos de diversas empresas privadas.\n\n\u201cEn Puerto Rico, las peque\u00f1as empresas son la columna vertebral de la econom\u00eda local y emplean a m\u00e1s del 80% de todos los trabajadores del sector privado. Por esto la importancia de apoyarlos no solo con ayuda econ\u00f3mica, sino adem\u00e1s con el acompa\u00f1amiento necesario para que en un futuro puedan estar mejor preparados para enfrentar emergencias como lo son los eventos naturales, y tener una mayor capacidad de recuperaci\u00f3n\u201d, expres\u00f3 Alma Frontera, vicepresidenta de operaciones y programas de FPR.\n\nLa Agencia Federal para el Manejo de Emergencias (FEMA) establece que aproximadamente entre el 40% y el 60% de las peque\u00f1as empresas nunca vuelven a abrir despu\u00e9s de un desastre, y otro 25% fracasa en un a\u00f1o. Ante estas estad\u00edsticas, FPR cre\u00f3 el SBSP tras el paso del Hurac\u00e1n Mar\u00eda en 2017, para ayudar a los propietarios de negocios existentes, participantes de la Econom\u00eda del Visitante, a permanecer abiertos, retener empleos y optimizar sus negocios a trav\u00e9s de asistencia t\u00e9cnica individualizada y alivio econ\u00f3mico.\n\nLos negocios impactados provienen de diversas industrias, que incluyen restaurantes, tiendas al detal y est\u00e9ticas, entre otros, todos participantes activos de los programas de capacitaci\u00f3n empresarial [re]ACTIVA y PULSO, ambos de FPR. Los beneficiarios recibieron entre $1,000 y $4,000 de acuerdo con las necesidades de acceso a capital que tuvieran y da\u00f1os reportados.\n\nComo parte de la ayuda, los negocios obtendr\u00e1n capacitaci\u00f3n individualizada para la creaci\u00f3n de un plan de respuesta a emergencia y continuidad de operaciones. Este acompa\u00f1amiento estar\u00e1 a cargo de Eddie L\u00f3pez, de la compa\u00f1\u00eda AwakenR, empresa dedicada a brindar asesor\u00eda empresarial a startups, emprendedores y PyMEs en la isla.\n\n\u201cEl acompa\u00f1amiento t\u00e9cnico y mentor\u00eda es tan o m\u00e1s importante que la ayuda econ\u00f3mica. Al brindarle ambos elementos a estos negocios, buscamos impulsar su recuperaci\u00f3n, pero adem\u00e1s prepararlos para enfrentar eventos futuros. The decision was made for two reasons.\n<ul>\n \t<li>First, by choosing the areas beforehand, FPR could better control program costs and logistics. This allowed FPR to implement the program quickly and put cash in businesses\u2019 hands within weeks of the hurricane, and three years later, within weeks of the earthquakes.<\/li>\n \t<li>Second, by aggregating funds within a dense geographic area, FPR increased the spill-over effects of individual grants. In other words, the impact of one single grant was not going to be nearly as much as 14 simultaneous grants in a region with large commercial activity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-54446bc elementor-hidden-desktop elementor-hidden-tablet elementor-hidden-mobile elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"54446bc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>Partner collaboration, leaning into their strengths.<\/b><\/p><p>In order to implement and strengthen this initiative, we joined forces with experts from Centro para Emprendedores and the Puerto Rico TechnoEconomic Corridor (PRTECH) to support and provide different types of support during these interventions. These organizations had the infrastructure in place to perform the business census, conduct needs assessment, and provide technical support. If FPR had attempted to build capacity to operate all components of the program, grants would have not been distributed so quickly after the storm and earthquakes, respectively.<\/p><p><b>Cash assistance supplementation with technical support.<\/b><\/p><p>The merger of cash and coaching was crucial in the program design.
