Culebra, Puerto Rico<\/strong> \u2014 Foundation for Puerto Rico (FPR),<\/a> together with the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce<\/a>, held the event \u201cTransforming Challenges: Barriers to Doing Business and Human Capital Development\u201d<\/em> in Culebra on Wednesday, October 22, as part of the efforts of the Community Innovation Hub (CIH)<\/a>. This initiative, developed under a grant from the USDA Rural Development<\/a>, aims to facilitate multisectoral collaboration processes in developing solutions to systemic challenges that limit the full participation of tourism stakeholders in the visitor economy of the eastern region.<\/p>

In this sixth CIH<\/a> event, two of the main challenges of the Eastern Region were addressed: the barriers that entrepreneurs face when conducting business and the lack of human capital necessary to achieve sustainable economic development in Culebra and the other 14 municipalities that comprise the region.<\/p>

The event brought together representatives from various nonprofit organizations, community leaders, local entrepreneurs, municipal and government representatives, and subject-matter experts. Throughout a day of field visits, participants were able to explore key sites across the municipality, such as the Government Center, Flamenco Beach, the Arts and Events Center, Fundaci\u00f3n de Culebra<\/a>, Mujeres de Islas<\/a>, Villa Pesquera<\/a>, the Public Plaza, and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company\u2019s<\/a> Information Center.<\/p>

\u201cThis visit allows us to examine key factors such as access to financing, mobility and transportation, permitting processes, the cost of doing business, service culture, and destination development, among other determining elements. We also aim to identify local initiatives that are generating tangible results and could serve as models or inspiration for developing scalable and replicable solutions in other municipalities across the eastern region,\u201d said Javier De Jes\u00fas Mart\u00ednez<\/strong>, Innovation Strategist at Foundation for Puerto Rico<\/a>.<\/p>

As part of the visit, a discussion session was also held, providing a space for participants to identify challenges and opportunities and talk about the real dynamics of running a business or organization. Members of the Community Innovation Hub<\/a> and the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce<\/a> led this session.<\/p>

The event was organized with the support of En Culebra<\/em><\/a> and featured notable participation from representatives of various agencies and municipalities, including: Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority<\/a>, Barrio El\u00e9ctrico<\/a>, Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce<\/a>, Carlos Jeep Rental<\/a>, Casa Carmen Culebra, Club Seabourne, Cooperativa de Ahorro y Cr\u00e9dito Oriental<\/a>, Cooperativa de Ahorro y Cr\u00e9dito Roosevelt Roads<\/a>, Equinoterapia Puerto Rico<\/a>, Foundation for a Better Puerto Rico<\/a>, Fundaci\u00f3n de Culebra, Gammy\u2019s Water Tours<\/a>, Kokomo Hotel\/Le Deli Bleu<\/a>, La J\u00edbara Pizzer\u00eda<\/a>, Mujeres de Islas<\/a>, Salsa y Saz\u00f3n Culebra, Snorkeling Puerto Rico, The Spot, The Spot Bar and Grill, and Williams Pizza.<\/p>

Transforming Challenges<\/em> is part of a series of meetings organized by the CIH<\/a> to foster solutions to the ten priority challenges identified in the eastern region, promoting a participatory and cross-sectoral approach. This series seeks to catalyze initiatives that strengthen resilience, sustainability, and equitable growth in the area.<\/p>
