In the\u00a0second session<\/a>\u00a0of our\u00a0Stay Open, Stay Safe<\/em>\u00a0interview series, engineer Lucy Crespo, CEO of the\u00a0Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust<\/a>, delves into contact tracing as a fundamental component of the\u00a0biological border model<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

During the virtual conversation, Crespo defines contact tracing as a tool used by health professionals, specifically health organizations at the state and municipal levels, as part of the support process for patients who have been confirmed or are suspected of infection.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

“In a pandemic, time is of the essence, because obviously what happens is that you have too many contacts in a very short period of time, and this overloads the health care systems,” adds Crespo, who works in the area of tracing in different ways, along with the Trust.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

It is important to identify contacts to avoid the spread of the virus in the communities. The lockdown and curfew are not a sustainable solution for the economy, so contact tracing would allow us to remain open and safe in the face of the pandemic.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

“If we can implement a test that most people at the airport receive, and that is a test that has a high reliability, you can start a trace,”\u00a0says\u00a0Crespo.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>
