Established in 2007, the Clinton Global Citizen Awards<\/a> honor outstanding individuals for their commendable leadership and work towards positive and lasting social change. This year, our president Annie Mayol fills us with pride by being one of the honorees alongside other remarkable leaders like Secretary\u202fMadeleine Albright; Christelle Kwizera, founder and managing director of Water Access Rwanda; Melva Williams, Presidential Leadership Scholar and vice chancellor for student affairs and enrollment management at Southern Shreveport; and Dr. Basem Hamid, practicing neurologist for his work to reduce the stigma of substance use disorder.<\/p>

Annie\u2019s path\u00a0at\u00a0Foundation for Puerto Rico began in 2018, shortly after the devastation that Hurricane Mar\u00eda caused in the island.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\u201cLike many people, Hurricane Maria changed the course of my life. It was during this time that I got to witness firsthand the incredible needs that our people were facing. It was then that I decided that\u00a0in order to have a real impact\u00a0I needed to move to the third sector where I could actively help in the reconstruction of Puerto Rico\u201d, explained Mayol during the event, that took place virtually and was attended by various guests, including President Bill Clinton and his wife, Secretary Hillary Clinton.\u00a0\u00a0\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Annie Mayol was acknowledged for her work to transform Puerto Rico through sustainable socio-economic development strategies. As an organization, Foundation for Puerto Rico has witnessed her passion and commitment towards building a stronger Puerto Rico. Her vision inspires us all to be better, work harder and be true\u00a0agents\u00a0of change in our lives and our\u00a0society as a whole.
