The Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge (RPIC) program, funded by the Rural Development division from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), sought support in the planning process for the Destino 191: \u201cEl Yunque del Caribe\u201d project, a community-based initiative from the Cubuy sector in Barrio R\u00edo Blanco, Naguabo, to create a Placemaking plan and comprehensive toolkit to revitalize highway PR-191 South.<\/p>

The project resulted in the publication of the Rural Placemaking Plan for Destination 191 and the Rural Placemaking Toolkit for Puerto Rico: Methods for implementing \u201cPlacemaking\u201d in your community.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Community Navigator Pilot Program, known as PULSO, of the Small Business Administration (SBA), had the primary purpose of providing small and medium-sized businesses with tools and resources to survive, grow, and expand. Through PULSO, Foundation for Puerto Rico accompanied small businesses, mostly from the northern region of the island, along with a network of business support organizations. During the program, they guided these businesses on a path toward optimization and growth, receiving technical assistance in a multi-stage format.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

[re]ACTIVA was a technical assistance program for businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. With the support and guidance of experts in business planning, marketing, and finance, each business received a series of key tools to address current challenges, optimize operations, innovate, and drive business growth.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Bottom Up Destination Recovery Initiative<\/a><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Bottom Up Destination Recovery Initiative supports the development of the Visitor Economy across under-served communities as a driver of sustainable and inclusive economic growth. The program is an evidence and asset-based community development initiative with the potential to transform communities and scale across the island. Through civic engagement and action planning, we are empowering communities across Puerto Rico from the bottom up. The program creates jobs, growth opportunities and new revenues that improve the lives of families and their communities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Emprende 360*<\/a><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our Emprende 360\u00b0 program is a multistage incubation model guiding entrepreneurs on their journey, from business idea to launch, with an inclusive, equitable, and collaborative educational approach. We co-designed the curriculum with four leading organizations in the entrepreneurial ecosystem: INprende, Centro para Emprendedores, Grupo Guayac\u00e1n and Causa Local\/KIVA. This program marks the first time the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, a renowned nonprofit that studies and promotes entrepreneurship, has awarded a Puerto Rican organization the Inclusion Open Grant. FPR was selected among 750 applicants across 42 states and two territories.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Small Business Support Program<\/a><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Traditionally, post-disaster recovery models have a stronger focus on infrastructure, restoration, and other elements of household recovery than on economic resilience, including business continuity. That is why we created the Small Business Support Program (SBSP) following the devastation of Hurricane Maria: to support existing business owners remain open, retain employees and optimize their business through immediate financial relief and technical assistance.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Hurricane Fiona<\/a><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Hundreds of communities were roughly beaten by the heavy winds and historic rain levels which caused almost every river on the island to leave their banks. Complete communities are flooded, and thousands have lost their homes and every belonging. The entire island is facing power outages and nearly 778,000 families have no running water.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Due to the dire humanitarian, economic, and social crisis created by hurricane Maria, FPR established the \u201cHurricane Maria Relief Fund\u201d to direct all its resources to facilitate response and coordinate recovery initiatives.<\/p>

The fund targeted its rebuilding efforts to provide basic needs to our communities and provide critical and sustainable infrastructure on the island.<\/p>

Per FPR\u2019s vision, the fund focuses on preserving the vital assets crucial for the island\u2019s immediate disaster recovery while supporting initiatives and approaches that enable a more resilient and sustainable model for the island\u2019s long-term economic growth. Our ultimate goal is to help unleash Puerto Rico\u2019s full potential.<\/p>

Leadership Academy<\/a><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Community Leadership Academy (CLA) was an innovative hybrid educational program with online and in-person courses focused on strengthening the skills and core competencies of community leaders, small and mid-size business owners, policymakers, and leaders of non-governmental organizations. The Program aimed to advance their personal and professional growth and foster and accelerate projects and initiatives focused on Puerto Rico\u2019s socioeconomic recovery. Participants were required to live in Puerto Rico, be a community leader, business owner, government staff, or NGO leader, and apply by June 30, 2022. By the end of the Program, they had to work on a Transformative Impact Project, with mentorship and guidance provided during the Academy.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
