Our island is facing a severe housing affordability crisis that significantly affects low- and middle-income individuals, particularly the younger population.<\/p>

That\u2019s why last year we conducted a study, gathering data and performing thorough research on the housing crisis in Puerto Rico, examining successful models from various parts of the world.<\/p>

Over the years, we have developed far-reaching programs aimed at empowering entrepreneurs and community leaders, such as [re]ACTIVA, PULSO, and the Leadership Academy.<\/p>

We currently have an initiative that offers technical assistance and training services to 2 municipalities and 5 nonprofit organizations, supporting the development of community projects in the municipalities of Ceiba, Naguabo, and Juncos.<\/p>

By closely collaborating with these beneficiaries, we enable them to “learn by doing” as they navigate the process of identifying grant opportunities aligned with their strategic priorities, designing fundable projects, preparing competitive proposals, and enhancing their capacity to manage grant funds.<\/p>

We are also creating a series of videos based on these teachings to provide more organizations with access to this valuable education.<\/p>

Since 2021, we have had the Whole Community Resilience Planning Program (WCRP). This is a program driven by the Department of Housing that provides communities in Puerto Rico with the tools to create community resilience plans. The idea is for these communities to respond quickly to any disruptive events, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and others they may face. Currently, FPR is working on 79 plans with around 300 communities.<\/p>

Multisectoral collaboration is key to identifying pressing community needs and finding practical solutions to these challenges. In the past, we have facilitated these types of connections in initiatives like Destino 191.<\/p>

Currently, the U.S. Forest Service is seeking solutions for sustainable recreation in El Yunque. These efforts aim to comprehensively address challenges related to access and transportation while also tackling financial and operational challenges in managing visitation and recreation along the PR-191 North route, such as transportation and parking limitations.<\/p>

Community involvement is essential to identifying and addressing access and transportation challenges to the El Yunque National Forest.<\/p>

We have worked with hundreds of communities since we began our journey in 2011. One of them is the Cubuy community in Naguabo, with whom we have been collaborating directly since 2021. Here, we were able to drive the community initiative \u201cDestino 191,\u201d where we created a Placemaking plan and a Toolkit to revitalize the PR-191 South road, better known as the southern entrance to El Yunque. One of the main objectives of the community leaders was to create a distinctive brand that identified the Destino 191 initiative while promoting it as an appealing and vibrant tourist destination.<\/p>
