Cubuy in Naguabo that aims to revitalize road 191 in the south side of El Yunque, turning the destination into its own brand: an inviting and vibrant destination and secondary entrance to one of Puerto Rico\u2019s most important assets: El Yunque National Rainforest. This will not only directly impact Cubuy&#8217;s community\u2019s economic prospects but those of 9 surrounding neighboring municipalities that include Can\u00f3vanas, R\u00edo Grande, Luquillo, Fajardo, Ceiba, Naguabo, Las Piedras, Juncos and Humacao. In addition, this approach can also be scaled to other distressed Puerto Rican communities to achieve synergistic goals. This first phase of the program will be active for 24 months.<\/p><p>A vital part of the revitalization of this area has been the participatory planning process between the community, Foundation for Puerto Rico and the US Forest Service, among other collaborators.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-2142\" aria-expanded=\"false\">INTENDED IMPACT<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-2142\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2142\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 4\"><div class=\"layoutArea\"><div class=\"column\"><ul style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><li><ul><li>Diversify the local economy by increasing the visibility of the community, and sustaining and reinvigorating its unique history, culture, and natural resources in order to attract reinvestment, visitors, jobs and growth to this region<\/li><li>Amplify the drivers of social cohesion in the municipality by building social capital and fomenting civic engagement<\/li><li>Assess critical infrastructure needs and assets including housing, roads, water, electricity, health care, education, emergency services, and broadband<\/li><li>Revitalize already-developed areas and assets while regenerating the environmental assets to reap social, health and economic benefits for future generations<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-2143\" aria-expanded=\"false\">LEADING PROGRAM MILESTONES<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-2143\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2143\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><ol><li>Design a placemaking planning and implementation technical assistance and training program tailored to Naguabo community needs and priorities<\/li><li>Increase local capacity for participatory planning and advocacy by providing TA for making a community infrastructure assessment and data gathering<\/li><li>Execute asset-based community mapping of the following criteria: History, Tradition, and Culture; Conservation of Natural Resources, Branding and Marketing<\/li><li>Publish the placemaking plan and support and mentor the implementation of one key placemaking project<\/li><li>Inaugurate the key placemaking project and publish the rural placemaking toolkit for Puerto Rico<\/li><\/ol><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-77a0b744 elementor-hidden-desktop elementor-hidden-tablet elementor-hidden-mobile elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"77a0b744\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">ESTIMATED BUDGET<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7b0507c elementor-hidden-desktop elementor-hidden-tablet elementor-hidden-mobile elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7b0507c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The creation of this novel program was possible in part thanks to a collaborative alliance between FPR and the Rural Development Division of the United States Department of Agriculture, through which a $250,000 grant was awarded to FPR under the Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge (RPIC) Act, to aid in the planning and development of destinations that help improve the social, cultural, and economic structures of rural communities.
