economy as an engine of economic development for our communities. The growth of Puerto Rico\u2019s visitor economy is well underway, as PR was one of the only destinations in the world that has grown since travel resumed during the COVID-19 pandemic, surpassing $1B in revenues for the first time in 2021.<\/p><p>Yet, these growing numbers are not flowing outside Puerto Rico\u2019s metro area and into regions with limited resources and persistent poverty. In turn, these revitalized assets will drive new visitors to the regions, and the visitor traffic will help create business clusters and service improvements. We&#8217;re already seeing the potential of these types of projects in completed or ongoing projects such as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/en\/initiative-mar-sin-barreras-luquillo\/\">Mar Sin Barreras in Luquillo<\/a><\/span>, the<a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/initiative-guajataca-tunnel\/\"> Guajataca Tunnel in Isabela<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/initiative-camuy-cave-park\/\">Camuy River Cave Park<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/en\/destino-191-initiative\/\"><u>Route 191 in Naguabo<\/u><\/a> (the second entrance to El Yunque).<\/p><p>We also want to provide our community partners with access to our development expertise and networks so they can gain deeper experience across the fields of visitor economy, resilience, innovation, entrepreneurship, and access elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6b7c00ba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Over the years we have achieved significant by promoting the visitor economy as an engine of economic development for our communities. In part, most of the success obtained can be attributed to asset revitalization projects such as <a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/en\/initiative-mar-sin-barreras-luquillo\/\"><span class=\"link link_mar_barreras_luquillo\"><strong>Mar Sin Barreras<\/strong><\/span> in Luquillo<\/a>, the Gujataca Tunnel in Isabela, the Camuy River Cave Park, and <a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/en\/destino-191-initiative\/\">Route 191 in Naguabo<\/a> (the second entrance to El Yunque). All these projects have been fundamental to stimulate Puerto Rico&#8217;s economy &#8211; reviving tourist attractions that invite visitors to new areas and stimulate the economy in these regions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c397a25 gotham_title elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c397a25\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Inclusive Tourism<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-73c2edf7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"73c2edf7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As part of FPR&#8217;s commitment to Puerto Rico and the revitalization of its unique assets, in July 2021 the organization led the revitalization and reopening of <a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/en\/initiative-mar-sin-barreras-luquillo\/\">&#8220;Mar Sin Barreras&#8221;,<\/a> located in La Monserrate Beach, in the municipality of Luquillo. This project was originally inaugurated in 1995 after Rosimar Hern\u00e1ndez, a young girl with mobility impairment, created a plan to facilitate access to the beach for people with reduced mobility. This incredible project aimed to break down barriers so everyone could enjoy the crystal-clear waters of Puerto Rico\u2019s beaches.<\/p><p>A large part of the success of <a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/en\/initiative-mar-sin-barreras-luquillo\/\">Mar Sin Barreras<\/a> is due to the Fortuna Playa community and its leaders, who work every day to ensure the safe operation of the area.<\/p><p>It is important to reflect on how this initiative has opened a path for true inclusion and accessible tourism on the island. There are approximately 1,000 beach destinations to choose from along our coastline, but few provide access to the disabled and\/or mobility-impaired community.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5279013f gotham_title elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5279013f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Destino 191, El Yunque del Caribe<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-460edecf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"460edecf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/a43.a93.myftpupload.com\/en\/destino-191-initiative\/\">Destino 191<\/a>, El Yunque del Caribe is an initiative that was born within the community of Barrio Cubuy in Naguabo, which aims to revitalize road 191 in the south side of El Yunque.
